I AM Still Is

I hear two things from the people I talk to when I am out around town. The prices are too high and this crisis in Japan is so scary. There is much to worry about.

I hear parents recently question what the world will hold for their young children. Will they have a future to look forward to? Will there be war, available energy, or enough food and jobs? There is much to worry about.

A group meeting in our home for a Bible study also talked about the world events. The oldest couple there said they had never seen these weather phenomena or turbulent prices before in their lifetime.

It can be a scary time if you do not know Who is still in control.

The God who said His name is "I AM" still IS. He is still on His throne in the heavens. He still guides the stars and planets on their course. He still determines how far the waters wash on the Earth. He still is our provider financially, emotionally and physically.

God is our refuge and strength,
   an ever-present help in trouble.
 Therefore we will not fear,
though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.

He doesn't promise to take the trouble away. The mountains will sway and the waters will roar. He promises to be our refuge and our strength through each crisis. We can walk through these times without fear because we know who still IS regardless of what we are called to endure.

Lord, calm us. Help us focus on your sheltering strength and present help in every trouble. Let us be a light to those we encounter who are full of fear. Give us your words to speak that we may be shining lights in a darkening world. AMEN

Got Needs?

Ever have that heartsick feeling when you fail—again? There is a weakness you can't seem to conquer?

I did recently and I wanted someone to pray with me. I couldn't seem to handle this need on my own. I scrolled through the names in my text messages.

I considered several friends:
  • No, she wouldn't understand
  • No, she is always too busy
  • Yes, now she is a person who prays alot!
I punched in my message to my prayer warrior friend but she didn't respond. Apparently she was busy that day....

I turned back to my Bible study homework on Revelations chapter 4—the throne room of God. Glorious!

Jesus is "there from now to eternity
to save everyone who comes to God
through him,
always on the job
to speak up for them
(Hebrews 7:25)" The Message

"God's Spirit is right alongside helping us along.
If we don't know how or what to pray,
it doesn't matter.
He does our praying in and for us,
making prayer out of our wordless sighs,
our aching groans.
He knows us far better than we know ourselves,
...and keeps us present before God.
(Romans 8:26-28)" The Message

It hit me; I had my prayer warrior. He sits at the right hand of His Dad always, ready to speak for my needs. I don't have to text Him, or wait through His voice mail message to ask Him to get back with me. That's Glorious!

No Instant Fruit

Spring is popping out already in East Texas. Two weeks ago I was snowed in at a Dallas apartment and today I'm looking at my daffodils shooting up in the yard.

I got carried away as I began mentally planning which flowers to plant in my yard. I wrote on a friend's facebook wall that I would grow sweet peas this spring—just like the ones her mom always had in her yard when I was growing up. I have the best memories of those sweet smelling flowers each year.

Too late. She reminded me that they had to be put in the grown last fall. "Put them in your September to-do list," she said.

Porcelain Romance

What word comes to mind when you hear the word romance? My word is toilet and it took over a decade of marriage to learn that.

Ideas of love and courtship filled my waking thoughts during Junior High--and my dreams at night. I checked out every teen love story in the school library. Daydreams found me musing about Mr. Perfect who must be longing to discover me to make his life complete.

I did finally meet and marry my husband. Would it surprise you to discover that my first year of marriage was rocky-- and the next ten as well?

To find out the happier ending to my porcelain romance story visit my post at (in)courage by Dayspring.

iPhone Love

My husband knows that the way to my heart is through technical gadgets. Two years ago he gave me an iPhone for Valentine's Day. This year he gave me an upgrade to a newer iPhone. I’m loving it.
With my first iPhone, I didn’t understand what he’d given me. It took weeks to figure out all that the phone could do.

Bliss

Becoming a grandmother or a "Nona" is incredible.

As a writer, I have to say this has for now left me without words. But, I have LOTS of pictures—most imprinted in my heart.

I've enjoyed watching my daughter and son-in-law pull together—they didn't really need to pull much closer. They are working like a team.

I forgot how a tiny cry can turn a house upside down. That first night with the baby home it seemed to take three adults to figure out what to do each time she awoke—loudly.

50 Million Babies

Hard to imagine 50 million babies.

This past Sunday was Sanctity of Life Sunday in commemoration of the passage of Roe vs. Wade. It was a sad commemoration because the latest statistics show 50 million babies have been aborted since 1973 when Roe vs. Wade legalized abortion. We lit 50 candles representing the 50 million babies the world never celebrated.

We had a special speaker, Claire Culwell, an abortion survivr. It is a strange, sad, wonderful story. Her mother was only 13 when she learned she was pregnant with Claire. The young teen's mother took her to an abortion center and she had an abortion.

That aborted baby was Claire's twin. Not for two months did the young teen mother learn that she was still pregnant.

Delivered 2 months premature, Claire was saddled with many physical problems but she is a fighter and she survived and was adopted into a loving home.

She is still a fighter, outspoken for life. Her tone, however, was amazingly forgiving. She asked us to pray.....for the abortion providers. She reminded us that the only way we will make an impact is to speak boldly in love.

With the staggering statistic that 43% of all women have had an abortion, it has become a medical need to treat the women who years later still suffer the effects of PTS or post traumatic stress from the depression and guilt associated with their decision.

Every abortion involves three people—a mother, a baby and a father. More and more men have expressed their grief over the loss of a baby through their partner's abortion.

It may be considered a woman's choice, but it also effects a baby and a man.
